Headingley Primary School
An article featured in the Yorkshire Evening Post on Tuesday 10th March announced the success that Headingley Development Trust has had in gaining the go ahead by the City Council’s Executive Board to take over a former primary school in Headingley. The school will be converted into an enterprise, arts and community centre called HEART. The trust has raised over £100,000 through a share issue, attracted a further £500,000 in grants and secured a £500,000 council loan.
The new centre will include start-up business units, meeting rooms and a performance space. The aim is for the centre to be a meeting point for Headingley residents, and the beginning of a more sustainable and stable community.
The council’s support for the scheme has been welcomed by local councillors including Martin Hamilton, James Monaghan and Jamie Matthews.
People wishing to get invloved with the project should contact development worker Kim Johnston at kim@headingleydevelopmenttrust.org.uk or call 07912 -068300.
