Leeds hometown heroes treated to a luxury pamper session courtesy of the UK’s first online salon booking site.

In mid-December, the UK’s premier online salon booking service, took the vote to the people of Leeds to uncover the area’s local heroes most deserving of a pampering session. Over 90 charity champions and hometown heroes were submitted via Facebook, Twitter and email, but in the end, three deserving candidates emerged as the clear winners. On February 2nd, 2014 alongside those who nominated them, Lilan Sweeting, Sharandeep Flora and Sarah Gledhill were given the full rock star treatment, including champagne, limos, makeovers and a new ‘do.

”I have had the opportunity to say thanks to my heroes personally, but there are so many people so grateful for the support they get and who want their heroes to be recognized,” said Thom Shaw, Co-Founder of Rock Pamper Scissors. ”It was great to give them the chance to do something special together that they’ll remember!”

A Little About The Hairdo Heroes:

Lilian Sweeting: Nominated by her daughter, Sarah. Having been diagnosed with breast cancer and suffering through a hip replacement, Lilian continued to support her family and friends, including her husband who was diagnosed with throat cancer. According to daughter Sarah, Lilian ”kept her chin up the entire time, never once complaining to anyone and always looking after someone else.”

Sharandeep Flora (age 14) and Sarah Gledhill (age 15): Nominated by Willow Young Carers. These two best friends both provide care and support to a parent with mental illness, all while maintaining school and supporting other young carers in the Leeds area. Both worked together to help build a webpage to help provide information on services for young carers in the area. If this wasn’t enough, Sarah has trained to be a Young Carers Champion so that she can advocate for Young Carers in Leeds.

Leeds’ Hairdo Heroes were pampered within an inch of their lives, and all received new looks, new ‘dos and even treatments to take home. While Sarah proclaimed it the ”best day of her life,” Lilian said, ”I can’t really say that I had a favourite bit that stood out from the rest as each little part of the day was special to us both.”

Said Shaw, ”We’d love to run the event again and are looking at doing two a year: one in the summer, and another over Christmas. We’d like the next events to be bigger so we can open the day to more heroes in the Leeds area.”
